'This is the railroad': Greater St. Louis Inc. CEO warns cities not to turn down data centers

Gov. Mike Kehoe said Missouri is at a pivotal moment as it works to attract and power large data centers. Greater St. Louis Inc. CEO, Ron Kitchens, warned that communities without large data centers may not be viable in the future. The warning was made during a summit on Missouri's energy future, hosted by the Public Service Commission. Speakers highlighted the impact of massive data centers on state infrastructure, spiking demand for electricity, increasing state economic growth and increasing local tax revenue. However, they warned that the state's existing infrastructure needs major updates due to unprecedented growth. Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe said the state will have to build new power plants to meet this growth. Speaks also celebrated multiple new hyperscale data center projects, with Amazon and Google centers in Montgomery County and Nebius in Independence.
