Boeing has unveiled a new and improved F-15 at the Spirit of St. Louis Airshow, introducing it to the public. The new plane features a digital fly-by-wire system, a self-protection system, and an awesome radar system. The United States is the biggest buyer of the F-150 so far, with the Air National Guard expected to buy six of their own units, bringing total sales to 128. However, there is interest from other countries. Rob Novotny, a retired Brigadier General who served in the Air Force for 30 years, said purchases like these are good for the St Louis economy as they represent four to five years of solid manufacturing work.

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Over the weekend, Boeing showed out at the Spirit of St. Louis Airshow, introducing to the public a new and improved F-15.

On the outside, the F-15 still looks the same, but what was new was under hood.

"It's completely different on the inside," said Mark Sears, Boeing's Vice President of Fighter Programs on KMOX last week before the air show. "We took that plane to digital fly by wire(meaning controls have changed from analog to digital) flight controls in 2012, put big motors in, put (Electronic Warfare System, which a a self-protection system) and an awesome radar system and it is a completely modernized airplane."

During the air show over the weekend, Boeing used it as an opportunity to show off the new F-15, in a dirty memo, meaning the jet was loaded mock-missiles to show maneuvers with the extra payload while the jets is reaching nine G's.

The show was used to show buyers, like the United States, and countries around the world it's capabilities.

Unsurprisingly, the United States is the biggest buyer so far. The Air National Guard is slated to buy six of their own which would take the total sale of F-15s to 128 for the U.S. The sale will make the country the highest volume purchaser of the F-15 in the world.

Rob Novotny, call sign Blend'r, a retired Brigadier General who flew the F-15 for the Air Force for 30 years, says purchases like those is good for St. Louis economy.

"It's huge," said Novotny. "That's four to five years of really solid manufacturing work done here. Our union partners, great jobs, great environment, great company to work for, doing something exciting, and doing something really critical for our national defense."

Novotny says Boeing St. Louis can pump out an F-15 a month but if other counties come calling to buy, they'll have to find a way to ramp up to two a month. But would other countries be interested to buy? Novotny says there has been interest.

"We have built them for Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Israel, and Qatar now," said Novotny. "We have had great international partners because they make investments that benefit everybody across the portfolio. So for example, someone like the Saudi Arabia, they are really interested in a digital fly-by-wire system( which the new F-15 has)."
