Missouri AG at odds with sculpture to be installed at Rung for Women
A sculpture that is heading to south St. Louis is drawing criticism from the Missouri Attorney General. The sculpture "Witness" by Shahzia Sikander is being criticized by the Missouri Attorney General, Catherine Hanaway, for being a "demonic affront to faith". The sculpture is set to be installed outside Rung for Women, a career accelerator and development center in Fox Park, St. Louis. Sikander's inspiration was the spirit and grit of fighting for abortion following the 2022 Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Hanaway alleges there has been minimal public notice or opportunity for neighborhood input. The Gateway Foundation is lending the sculpture to Rung, where it will be installed on their property.
