We know for a fact there will be a historic total solar eclipse that will cross Missouri and Illinois during the afternoon on April 8, 2024. What we don't know for sure is whether it will be cloudy or sunny. There is now an official forecast from meteorologists about what they think will happen though. The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued its first official weather prediction for the afternoon of April 8, 2024 in Missouri. The historic total solar eclipse will cross Missouri and Illinois during that afternoon on April 8. However, it is uncertain whether it will be cloudy or sunny. The NWS is predicting a better than average chance of more or less clear skies along the path of totality in Missouri for Monday afternoon, April 8 and is almost certain there will be no rain, but the cloud cover question is the biggest concern. A front moving through Missouri on Sunday, April 7, could clear skies, but a slower movement could cause cloud cover when the moon begins to eclipse the sun in Missouri around 1:54pm.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis has just shared their first of many weather predictions for the afternoon of April 8, 2024 in Missouri. If you're in the path of totality, you'll want to know if that big ball of fire in the sky will be visible or hidden behind clouds. Here's what the NWS is saying as of this writing.

There's a front that will move through Missouri on Sunday, April 7. The National Weather Service in St. Louis doesn't know exactly how fast that front will move. If it's a quick mover, then skies should clear and make for an ideal eclipse viewing experience. If the front is slower though, that could mean cloud cover when the moon begins to eclipse the sun in Missouri around 1:54pm.
Note that solar eclipse experts have slightly adjusted the expected path of totality across Missouri. It's not extremely different, but fringe areas may not see totality.
