Five years ago, on June 15, 2019, a St. Louis Blues fan named Scott Berry cashed on a bet that arguably changed his life. He bet on the Blues in January to win the Stanley Cup when they had the worst record in the NHL. However, Berry's faith paid off in one of the most improbable and memorable runs in sports history, culminating in a $100,000 win.

Scott Berry trusted the team and took a risk that proved to be very rewarding in the long run.

The St. Louis Blues, who were the Western Conference champions, defeated the Eastern Conference champions Boston Bruins in an arduous best-of-seven series and clinched their first ever Stanley Cup.

It was the Blues’ fourth time in the finals. They were in the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 1970, when they lost 4-0 against the Bruins.

The 2018-2019 season started off poorly for the St. Louis Blues. They had a challenging time at the beginning of the season with a 7-9-3 record that led to the dismissal of then-head coach Mike Yeo.

Acting coach Craig Berube was named interim coach as the team continued experiencing more losses. Their record fell to an NHL-worst of 15–18–4 with 34 points on Jan. 2, 2019. However, a drastic change followed in the latter half of the season

The Blues embarked on a 30-10-5 stretch and recorded 99 points to end third in the Central Division. Rookie goal-tender Jordan Binnington came in and got 23 wins. During the playoffs, the St. Louis Blues won 4-2 over Winnipeg Jets in the first round. They then eliminated the Dallas Stars 4-3 in the second round before beating the San Jose Sharks 4-2 in the conference finals.
