Mo. Attorney General sends prescription manufacturer Eli Lilly cease-and-desist over drug price policy
Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced Monday she has sent a cease and desist letter to the drug manufacturer Eli Lilly. Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has sent a cease-and-desist letter to drug manufacturer Eli Lilly over its drug price policy, alleging that the company has been exerting its market power to impose higher prescription prices on hospitals participating in the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program. Hanaway alleges that Eli Lilly's policy effectively cut off discounts for these facilities, particularly for rural hospitals dependent on the program. The University of Missouri Health Care (MU Health Care) had refused to comply with turning over the claims data, leading to Eli Lilly cutting the health care system off from the 340B pricing in July. Hanway: "Big Pharma does not get to bully Missouri hospitals or hold prescription drug prices hostage." Anyone with allegations of unfair pharmaceutical practices can file a complaint on the Missouri Attorney General's website.
